Training Grant
Now you are back in work why not think about training, to update your existing skills or gain new ones ?
You have £1,500 to help you
£1,200 which can be used to strengthen your existing skills and can get you established back into work. £300 that can be used to develop life-long learning skills.
Why Training ?
With training you can update your existing skills or gain new ones to improve your job prospects. Whether you want to increase your computer skills or improve your existing job skills, the New Deal 50 plus Training Grant can be used to help you to achieve this.
What can the Training Grant pay for ?
- It can pay for training that is relevant to your job and improves your skills in the long-term. For example:
- if you work in an office you might want to learn how to use the internet or learn some new computer skills.
- you may work as a Care Assistant and want to go on a First Aid or Health and Safety course.
- you may be self-employed and wish to go on a course in business management, keeping accounts, pricing, marketing etc, or use it for advice, guidance and support from an organisation offering support to small businesses.
The Training Grant may be used for training not normally given by your employer, or it can be used for training or learning with a Training Provider, for example a Further Education College or a local provider of vocational training.
What do I have to do ?
- Discuss your training needs with your local Jobcentre Plus, or employer, or training company or college. For information about training available in your area, telephone learndirect on 0800 100 900.
- Complete the Individual Training Plan in the New Deal booklet: Putting Yourself In the Picture, available from your Jobcentre. They can help and advise you.
- Agree the Individual Training Plan with the Jobcentre who will need to approve your application.
- Once your plan is approved, you will be sent a Training Grant application form.
- Complete the form and return it to your Jobcentre.
- Payment can be made to your employer, to the training or learning provider or to you on production of a valid invoice or receipt.
